Wedding photographer review

Hannah isn’t just a wedding photographer, she is basically an extra bridesmaid, with all the wedding knowledge! She gave us the most sage advice in the build up to the day and on the day was wonderful! We love our photos. Hannah will go to any length to get them, even crawling under tables! She is the best photographer ever!

Your best wedding moment or memory

We had our ceremony in the woods and it was so beautiful. The colours, the light, reading our own vows to each other, everyone was so happy, it was just perfect and still makes me smile.

Tell us anything you did differently – we love hearing about NEW traditions (or none at all!)

We split up the speeches so my dad did his speech before we sat down to eat, Stu and I did a speech each after the sharing starters and then the best man speech was after the main meal which was a BBQ. We didn’t have dessert, instead we had a doughnut wall (made by my dad and doughnuts from our local Greggs).

As well as confetti everyone had sticks with ribbons on to wave both during and after the ceremony. Lots of people camped on site including us and we did a BBQ breakfast the next day. Our dad’s wore the same suits as the groomsmen. We hung up pictures in the Yurts of us with all our guests from different stages of our lives.

Venue name + review

Hillside Farm Weddings. The venue was basically a field with a woods at the side. Everything else we had to source ourselves. We used Cheltenham Yurt Hire for the Yurts, they were so beautiful and luckily we had a sunny day so we could have the sides up!

Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!

Stu- suit from Moss Bros. Dark green suit with light green waistcoat. Waistcoat matched the groomsmen but the suit was different because he wanted to stand out. Christina – A fitted dress from Gatehouse Brides with a beaded lace bodice, low back, beaded straps, plain skirt but then a lace train and hem.

Florist name + review

I was lucky enough for one of my gorgeous friends and bridesmaids to do my flowers. Anna Lomas. She did the most incredible flower arch that we used to get married under and then for the entrance to the main yurt. She also did all the bouquets and we all did the table flowers together the day before in jam jars etc. my parents also grew a lot of flowers that we had in pots to decorate the ceremony space and the outside of the Yurts. We wanted to try and make it a bit more sustainable so when it was over people could take pots home to plant in the garden.

Cake maker name + review

My mum Rose made the cake. It was a rum and ginger cake as a nod to my Caribbean heritage and I decorated it with some edible flowers.

Stationery maker’s name + review

Stu’s cousin, Lisa Harrison did our invitations, she is a graphic designer and that was her wedding gift to us. We were also luckily enough for our friend Rosanna to write our name cards.

Any crafty projects or homemade styling touches?

Pretty much the whole wedding was homemade as I have mentioned above! As well as what I have already mentioned, I made all the hair accessories for myself and bridesmaids. I also made the button holes. With my bridesmaids we made macrame hangings to hang in the trees. My mum made silk flower table decorations in little terracotta pots, she also made the table runners. My dad and Stu made the ceremony arch, a limbo, the doughnut wall, corn hole games, a sign post pointing to all the important places in our lives and the wedding sign. My mum decorated the mirror for the table plan and our friend wrote the table plan. We also dried our own flowers for confetti.

Wedding readings?

We had 2 readings read by some of our cousins. Lisa & Shell – how being in love is like owning a dog – Taylor Mali Zara & Georgie – I will be here – Steven Curtis Chapman

First dance song? Playlist recommendations?

Halo – Beyonce We had the most AMAZING wedding band – Tru Groove. They really got the party started and the dance floor was packed from beginning to end! They even set up a sing off with the guests. I would highly recommend them to anyone who likes to dance!

Hair + makeup name + review

My cousin Carly did my make up and one of my friends and bridesmaids Rachael did my hair. I am her bridesmaid next year but strangely she hasn’t asked me to return the favour!

Catering recommendation

I would also like to mention our caterers Hey Pesto Catering. They were amazing, from dealing with our complicated welcome drinks – rum punch, sangria & Pimm’s, to our evening food, curried goat, Ital curry and rice & peas, they were incredible and everything was so delicious despite being in a field with limited resources! I would highly recommend them.

Hello lovely! I’ve been SO excited to share today’s wedding with you! It’s gorgeous couple Hanna & Caitlin, and their festival wedding at Willow Grange Farm! Do scroll down to read the happy couple’s story of their day, and all of those fantastic supplier recommendations!

Wedding photographer’s website

Damien Vickers – https://www.damienvickersphotography.co.uk/

Wedding photographer review

Damien did just the most wonderful job of capturing our wedding. He perfectly balanced candid shots with group and posed photos, and the “golden hour” sunset photos he did are phenomenal – so many of our guests have commented that these are the best wedding photos they have ever seen and we can’t disagree! Damien was also a lovely person to have with us throughout the day and in the lead up to the wedding – he was unobtrusive, made sure he knew of particularly special moments and people we wanted captured, and made two camera-shy individuals feel very at ease.

Your best moment or memory

The ceremony itself – we had a wonderful celebrant (Ruth Salisbury-Higgs) who helped us come up with a really personal ceremony. We both wrote our own vows and finished with confetti from all our guests in the sunshine!

Tell us anything you did differently – we love hearing about NEW traditions (or none at all!)

We had rum punch as one of our reception drinks in memory of a fun holiday in the Caribbean and the four tier wedding cake was made by one of the bride’s mums. We also lit a unity candle as part of our ceremony and involved our parents.

Venue name + review

Willow Grange Farm – We put a deposit down at Willow Grange Farm for our wedding before we’d visited the venue – and it truly paid off! The venue itself is beautiful and helped create a really relaxed and fun environment for the day and the gorgeous weather meant people were able to spend the whole day outside, from the ceremony under the pagoda to drinks outside the tent and then food and dancing in the tent. Oh and the sunset was incredible! Plus we had lots of guests stay on site which was a real bonus, and their commitment to sustainability is what made us select them in the first place. The team at Willow Grange Farm, Clara and Hannah especially, are just wonderful; they helped us plan all the details in the lead up to the day and stayed calm throughout, no matter how stressed we were! On the day they were both amazing, making sure everything ran smoothly and being the cogs behind the scene that made the whole day fantastic. The venue and the team have had so many compliments from out guests.

Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!

We both wore dresses by a Spanish designer, Rosa Clara who has a collection called Alma Novia.

Dress or suit shop name + review

Boa Boutique in Surrey – Philippa and Sheila were amazing; they have a wonderful collection of dresses and made us feel so comfortable and special. We had a fair amount of alterations that we needed to do before final fitting and they really paid off – we both felt amazing on the day!

Florist name + review

Clemmie & Twine – the absolute dream choice to do flowers for our wedding! From the moment we met them, they listened to some of our ideas and provided lots of creative thought where we needed it. Their hard work led to such a beautiful day – with a flower arch where we had the ceremony and then moved to the reception entrance, to flowers in our hair and beautiful bouquets, to flowers for our homemade wedding cake, to posies and candles on the tables and moveable sprays of flowers inside. They were super flexible and provided us with greenery and flowers where we wanted to put together our own little personal touches too.

Cake maker name + review

Hanna’s mum! A four tiered gluten free wedding cake – it was delicious and looked stunning with real flowers cascading down it.

Stationery maker’s name + review

Little Green Wedding – we had beautiful wildflower themed order of service cards, table names and plans. They were all printed on eco-friendly seed paper so our guests could grow wildflower seeds from them when they got home; truly beautiful!

Any crafty projects or homemade styling touches?

We created a “Donation Station” and chose two charities that were important to us so people could donate rather than give us gifts. We created posters and framed them and had candles and flowers surrounding them, plus a polaroid camera so people could take photos and add them to our guest book.

Wedding readings?

Excerpts from: Thomas Merton “A Little Life” – Hanya Yanigihara “Wild Awake” – Hilary T Smith

First dance song?

Paper rings by Taylor Swift

Hair + makeup name + review

Flashkate Bridal Hair & Make up – I am so glad I had the absolute pleasure of Kate doing my hair and make up for my wedding – and she even took on a last minute ask to do my mum’s hair and my partner’s hair too! Kate has a natural knack for putting people at ease; she listens to any ideas I had and came up with styles even better than I hoped for, including fixing real flowers into my hair and making some on-the-day tweaks to what we’d previously trialled. Both hair and make up lasted so well throughout the whole day but never felt “crispy” and I felt like a better version of me!

Wedding photographer review

Amie was great and listened to all ideas that we had. She made the day really enjoyable!

Your best moment or memory

Walking down the aisle surrounded by so many friends and family (lock down rules for outside weddings had only been lifted 2 weeks prior.) A friend was marrying us and another friend sang Mrs Robinson by Simon and Garfunkel.

Tell us anything you did differently – we love hearing about NEW traditions (or none at all!)

Our confetti was hand dyed rice that was passed out to all our guests. We had a children’s tent with 2 childminders in to help entertain the children. We also had 2 different food vans to give the wedding feel!
Our Fire Dancers were amazing – they were from House of Bonita Entertainment

We hired 3 teepee style tents from Elite Tents. They were amazing and they were so helpful when the wedding got postponed due to Covid. Wedding was held in Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire, on my parents land.

My dress was by the designer Lillian West and bought from Elia Pearl in Rugby. Suits were hired for the groom and best man.

A gorgeously relaxed wedding, festival-inspired in both look and approach, from a super fun couple whose guests camped out in shepherds’ huts, bell tents and safari lodges for the occasion! All images are by English Wedding member and Cambridge wedding photographer Damien Vickers, who gets a brilliant review from the happy couple below.

I absolutely love these two, not least for this magical little comment in their interview:

We both found our outfits in the first place we looked (mostly because we didn’t want to do anymore looking ;)).

We hear you. And we bloody love you for saying this!!!

Wedding photographer’s website

https://www.damienvickersphotography.co.uk

How did you choose your photographer?

We loved Damien’s natural style, his photos really tell the story of the day with unguarded moments, which is what we wanted.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

Damien was great from start to finish. Very relaxed and made us feel at ease straight away. He blended in to our wedding party and we didn’t really notice him throughout the day, and even so he has managed to capture all the best moments in the perfect way.

What’s your fondest memory of your wedding?

It’s hard to choose! The ceremony was so beautiful and the speeches had everyone in tears from both the poignant words and/or funny stories (mostly aimed at myself and Ed).

Did you hire a videographer?

James Pearson – instagram: @jammy.pearson
It was a slightly late decision to get a videographer and we are SO glad we did, it’s a wonderful memory that we can look back on.

Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?

Willow Grange Farm is amazing. The sperry tent is really gorgeous and includes everything – so less faff for you to organise! It was also great that everyone was able to stay on site, as they have a mixture of shepherds huts, safari lodges and bell tents, so you can make a weekend of it! Another highlight is the magical sunsets across the Fens.

Did you love wearing your outfits? How was your shopping experience, was it fun to find your wedding gear?

We loved our wedding outfits, they both felt like a good representation of who we are, whilst making us look good and still feel comfortable. We both found our outfits in the first place we looked (mostly because we didn’t want to do anymore looking ;)).

Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness 🙂

Wild Rosamund. Instagram: @wildrosamund. She has such a great eye and we trusted her completely with our flowers. I gave little-to-no instruction, other than a colourful selection of seasonal flowers and she absolutely delivered on that. I know that her focus is on sustainability, getting flowers as locally and seasonally as possible, she even forages some herself. We had so many compliments on the day about the flowers.

As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?

Anna Littler – instagram @littlersbuns. She has only just started her cake making business this year and she is outrageously good! She made exactly what we wanted. We had it for our dessert, as I wanted to make sure everyone had a taste. Everyone is still talking about how delicious it was.

Tell us about any special personal touches, or creative projects you made yourselves (we love that stuff!)

We put welcome cards in all of the tents for wedding guests arrival. We also used label maker to put tags on our guests favours of limoncello!

We did a joint speech! We both stood up together and thanked our people and then went on to speak about our partnership.

Did you have any wedding readings? What were they?

Wild Awake – Hilary T Smith
Letter from Johnny Cash to June Carter (1994)

What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?

Al Green – Let’s Stay Together. In all honesty, we didn’t have ‘a song’ that felt right for a first dance, we spent an evening listening to tonnes of songs and this one stood out to us, as something that had lovely words and a tune you wanted to dance to.

What does the word ‘wedding’ bring to mind for you? A white dress, a country house, a fancy sit down meal? When I first started in the wedding industry that’s what it meant to me as well. But now I hear the word wedding and I know the only constants are love, joy and celebration. Throwing personality into that mix is the secret recipe for an amazing wedding – remembering of course that not all weddings have a bride or a dress; not all weddings are formal – and the best ones, if I’m honest, are unexpected and characterful.

London wedding photographers York Place Studios describe their style as unposed, candid imagery with humour and heart. I think that’s pretty special – and as you scroll through the images of Patrick and Charlotte and their guests, you’ll absolutely get that vibe. Because weddings are about people: all of your favourites, gathered together to see you get wed and share your happiness. Their quirks and connections are what will make you smile when you scroll through your album in years to come. (They’re also why we recommend having a documentary wedding photographer – every time!)

Scroll slowly: there are moments which will make you grin if you look carefully; and one or two which will bring a tear to your eye. This is a day that brings me so much joy – a gorgeous couple who did their wedding their way, making it unique and amazing.

Charlotte and Patrick’s Suffolk wedding day began at Secret Meadows Glamping, with the ceremony and celebrations at Old Jet Arts Centre. If you’ve ever wondered what happens on the morning of a wedding… or how to fill the time if you’re tying the knot later in the day… well, these guys rock it just by being them. Relaxing with friends, rugby or a game of draughts and some fruit, a few beers… the moral of the story is, just be YOU! (Oh, and invite your wedding photographers to join you early on in the day… it’s still your best day ever before you get your gear on!)

Scroll all the way down to check out the party in the rather spectacular geodesic dome marquee. (It’s ok – I had to google it too!) This is an epic, free-spirited and beautiful wedding which I hope will inspire you to do your own thing, drop some wedding traditions and fill your day with personality!“english

There is no one single thing more capable of sprinkling magic on a wedding than the hire of a tipi. Tipis have a special atmosphere about them and at the same time represent a blank canvas for any couple to imprint their own style. They’re perfect as a backdrop for any festival, country style or boho wedding theme that might clash with the interiors of regular buildings.

Hiring a wedding tipi is a relatively simple process as there are some great tipi hire companies out there, like Garden Weddings Tipi Hire who are always more than happy to help with any special requests. Theirs is a source of information worth mining as they can help with the many logistics that need to be considered.

In the current climate anyone planning a wedding would be well advised to maximise time spent outdoors and having a tipi or a selection of tipis is an excellent way to encourage optimal airflow and ensure social distancing is encouraged. The UK weather is never predictable enough to go fully outdoors and so tipis offer the perfect solution. Let’s look at some key pieces of advice for hiring a tipi for your perfect wedding.

Choose the right tipi wedding venue

Credit: https://www.glixphotography.co.uk

What’s in a field? Well, your choice of field will determine the backdrop for your wedding celebration, the ease with which guests can find you, how easily accessible your wedding celebration will be and so on. You will need to find a venue with plenty of space to accommodate your tipi and your portable toilet facilities, generators and any other facilities you will need, like mobile food providers.

Tipi or tipis?

At an early stage you will want to decide how many tipis you will need. You may decide to hire two so that you can separate the wedding breakfast room from the entertainment room. This can be a great way to adopt distinct themes, maintain social distancing and give your wedding celebration a more spacious feel.

Plan the layout properly

Your tipi offers great potential for a whole host of distinct layout options. You will want to consider whether you’re going to get some live music inside and how the band can safely situate themselves, leaving plenty of space for guests to get around and for tables and chairs. You will also want to decide whether you are going for an overall theme or if you just want to create a certain kind of atmosphere. With a tipi, in this regard, the world is your oyster!

Lighting your wedding tipi is key

When hiring a tipi for your wedding you must plan the lighting situation carefully. Lighting the outside areas ensures guests can see where they are going and avoids unnecessary falls. Lighting inside the tipi can make for a magical space, if done properly. Think fairy lights and festoons, faux neon signs and a glitter ball or two! Enlisting the help and advice of your tipi hire company here is advised.

Make sure guests dress accordingly

This is a crucial consideration as high heels and fields are not happy bedfellows. Include a note in your invitations or on your wedding website to help guests plan their footwear – and have a basket of flip flops or even slippers to hand so your best friends can dance the night away under canvas and in comfort!

I’m completely in denial of the blustery Monday outside my window and 100% smitten with today’s STUNNING festival wedding on the blog. I do love to begin a week with a wedding to knock your socks off, and I think we’ve really nailed it today with our gorgeous couple Charlotte & Will. Their day combines rustic styling touches with elegant looks for the bride and groom – their tipi reception is absolutely lovely; the top table with their children is a joy (I love this idea!) – and the florals in white with oodles of greenery are just exquisite. We’ve lots of love for English Wedding member Mamad at Twig & Vine Photography who has captured their day beautifully. Have a lovely Monday everyone!“english

How did you choose your photographer?

We liked his style – his photos are very natural. We don’t like staged photos, and neither does Mamad. Instead, he captures the little moments that really make the day.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

Definitely. First, we booked an ‘engagement shoot’ which was six weeks or so before the wedding and was really so Mamad could coach us through the dos and don’ts of taking a good picture. It also gave us the opportunity to go through the photos and say what we liked and didn’t like, and got us all more comfortable with each other before the big day. He also had a lot of advice on how quickly the day would go and how to handle it. On the day, Mamad had lots of great ideas for shots and settings, but most of the time blended into the background and got lots of natural shots. His photos really capture the feeling and atmosphere of the day, and we love them.

Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?

Will’s parents live on an old farm in the Cotswolds, and we put a tipi up in a field there. It’s a stunning place, with great views, and the tipi fitted in perfectly. We wanted something quite informal, and a bit different. We love that we can revisit our venue and remember the day whenever we visit the in-laws.

Did you love wearing your outfits? How was the dress / suit shopping experience?

Charlotte’s dress was the third she tried on. She wanted quite a low key dress, and went shopping with her mum. When her mum saw her in ‘the dress’, she cried. Charlotte had doubts a few weeks later though and only wanted to know Will’s opinion but couldn’t show him. This drove her mad until the wedding day but Will was blown away!
Suit shopping was difficult. We had to do it during lockdown, so everything was online and difficult to get an accurate idea of the colour/fit. We went through quite a few deliveries and returns where suits that looked good online didn’t look right after they’d arrived. On top of that it was a nightmare finding a suit we liked that was available in all the sizes we needed for groomsmen, fathers etc. We finally found the right one, but most of the groomsmen didn’t try it on until the wedding day (again, because of the lockdown restrictions)… but thankfully everything fit!

Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness

We used The Lily Pad Florist, and Gemma was great. We were both a bit clueless (especially Will) about what we wanted, but she sat down with us and after getting an idea of the feel of the wedding, had loads of suggestions on how to expand the few basic things we’d thought about. The end effect was so much better than we could have imagined and we were really pleased.

As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?

We used Hannah Culley’s Cakes and had a two tier cake. The first tier was Oreo flavoured, and the second was white chocolate and passion fruit. We both work for an airline, and so we had a gold world map iced onto it. Finally, it had golden macaroons scattered over the tiers. It was delicious and we still have some in the freezer!

Tell us about any special personal touches, or creative projects you made yourselves

We love a good gin, and collected a few unusual bottles to use for the different table names, then put a gin and tonic cracker at each place. We wanted something a bit different from your standard wedding food, so had a food van provided by Hunger Foods. They made a curry for the wedding breakfast, a barbeque in the evening, and their food was stunning. The tipi had a fire pit, and there were marshmallows to toast for anyone who was still hungry! Finally, we had heard that often the people who have to make a speech don’t enjoy their food at the wedding breakfast, because they’re so nervous. So we decided to have our speeches before the meal and then let everyone get on with enjoying themselves!

What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?

The Lumineers – Ho Hey. It’s difficult to explain why. We both like the song and when we sat down to discuss the first dance it was one we’d both thought about. We listened to it, and a few others, but Ho Hey just felt right.

How did you choose your photographer?

Rachel popped up on a Facebook advert and we just fell in love with her style of photography.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

We were lucky enough to have Rachel and her lovely husband Mike photographing our special festival weekend. They both put us completely at ease as soon as we met them and you didn’t even know they were there taking photos they just felt like our friends. The moments she captured blew us away and every time we spend an evening looking back at our photos we really feel like we are back in the field reliving our wedding, they are amazing.

Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?

https://www.fieldgoodbar.co.uk/

Fieldgood bar in Bath.
We had been to a wedding celebration here a year before we got married and both just fell in love with the relaxed festival vibe. From the beautiful views with a sunset to the camping and firepit we booked our wedding date the following Week and never even looked at another venue.
Annie was amazing and did everything she could to make it the day we wanted she helped us set everything up as well.

Did you love wearing your outfits? How was the dress / suit shopping experience?

I fell in love with a bridal jumpsuit from whistles so never went dress shopping. We did nothing traditional!
Dans suit was from ASOS.

Did my bouquet and table flowers.

Did you hire a wedding planner?

We planned and decorated everything ourselves with the help from Annie from the fieldgood bar.

As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?

Again not traditional. We did a wedding bake off and our guests all brought home made cakes and we did prizes for the best ones.- everyone really made a massive effort and there were some amazing cakes it was so much fun!

Tell us about any special personal touches, or creative projects you made yourselves

The wedding bake off – there were lots of sausage dog themed cakes as we have two sausage dogs.
We had a glitter bar table where everybody covered themselves in glitter.
I am a dog walker and a few of my doggy friends came to see us and loved running around the field and all the attention.
