There’s something undeniably magical about a winter wedding, the crisp air, frosted landscapes and that quiet sense of romance that seems to hang in the stillness of the season. If you’re dreaming of a winter celebration that feels both elegant and ethereal a baby blue wedding theme might be your perfect match. Soft, serene and effortlessly romantic, this delicate hue captures the essence of winter skies and icy elegance — while bringing a touch of “something blue” to your day.

A Palette of Winter Dreams

Baby blue is a colour that whispers rather than shouts , the embodiment of grace and calm. When paired with crisp white and silver it creates a sophisticated palette reminiscent of glacial sparkle and morning frost. Touches of soft grey, dusty blue, or pale blush can add depth, while gold accents bring a warm, candlelit glow to the cool tones. Together, these hues form a dreamscape of winter wonder that feels timeless and refined.

Bridal Jewellery to Reflect the Ice-Kissed Palette

Your jewellery should echo the story your theme tells. Think sparkling crystals, freshwater pearls and soft silver tones — a combination that shimmers gently without overpowering your look. A teardrop cut crystal earring set or a dainty pearl drop can add that touch of frosty glamour, complementing both classic and modern gowns beautifully. For a bride embracing winter’s light, jewellery with a hint of pale blue stone or pearls feels especially fitting.

Hair Accessories for the Snow Queen Bride

A winter-inspired headpiece can complete your bridal look with enchanting grace. Consider a crystal-encrusted hair vine, a pearl-dusted comb or a tiara that sparkles like ice under candlelight. Baby blue accents — whether a hint of Swarovski crystal, hand-painted enamel leaves or snowflakes bring the theme to life in a subtle, romantic way. For brides wearing soft curls or elegant updos, these delicate touches will catch the light beautifully as you move, creating a magical, fairy-tale effect.

Right on the home page of English Wedding you’ll see “This website is for everyone. It’s about love.” Sharing love stories of every kind brings so much joy to our screens, and while it’s been a little while since we’ve shared a proposal story, Jacob and Sneha’s is incredibly special. I will admit, as I did to their photographer Priti Shikotra on a quick email yesterday, that the way Jacob described the moment was so romantic it made me cry. And I’ve been writing about weddings for sixteen years! Over to Jacob who was kind enough to share their story, with those breathtaking images from Manchester wedding photographer Priti Shikotra. This is utterly gorgeous in every possible way. Enjoy!

Sneha and I have been friends since we were kids, growing up together in the same church. On a church camping trip, we ended up spending a lot of time together organising games for the kids and helping out. Somewhere between the laughter and shared moments, we began to see each other as more than just friends. When we started dating, it didn’t take long for me to realise she was the one. Just three weeks in, my birthday was coming up, and Sneha surprised me with a handmade scratch-off poster of a Bollywood film for us to watch together. I only mentioned the idea in passing, but she had spent hours making it. That simple, thoughtful gesture captured who she is: attentive, caring and always willing to go the extra mile in everything she does. It’s just one of many moments that made me fall in love with her.

Sneha has a gift for making special moments extra special, whether it’s staying up all night to bake and decorate a cake for her nephew’s birthday or planning the perfect getaway for her mum’s 50th. So when I decided to propose, I wanted to give her a night and day with the same love and care she provides. With help from my friend Amir, I recreated our first date, filling my living room with balloons, candles and flowers. We’re definitely not as good at decorating as she is: at one point, the helium tank spun uncontrollably around the rooms while we dived for cover, surrounded by popped balloons and chaos! Thankfully, she loved the finished product.

The next day, on our anniversary, I took her to brunch and then to Chatsworth House and gardens. After a lovely day, we walked down to a quiet spot by the river, which Amir, my brother Nathan, Sneha’s best friend Aneesha, and I had scouted beforehand. Amir had even driven all the way from Manchester to set up the spot beautifully, complete with a rose vine and white cloths, while our amazing photographer posed nearby, pretending to take scenic photos. When we reached the spot, the moment was emotional and magical, a little too much actually, as Sneha started crying and I forgot most of my speech. I must have said enough of the right things, because she said yes!

I am so grateful to my mum, dad, brothers and my friends who helped me in every way to make this moment so memorable. Proposing to Sneha was one of the happiest experiences of my life, and I feel incredibly blessed to be marrying such an incredible woman.

Absolutely Amazing! Priti photographed my proposal, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the very beginning, she was fantastic, great at communicating, helpful in the planning stages, and so lovely to work with. On the day, she was incredibly smooth and discreet, managing to stay hidden until the perfect moment. She captured every emotion beautifully and then took so many stunning photos afterwards, making us feel completely comfortable in front of the camera. I’d 100% recommend Priti to anyone looking for a photographer. Thank you so much, Priti, for making such a special day even more unforgettable! Jacob’s Google review for Priti Shikotra Photography

I loved reading Hitched’s wedding trends prediction for 2026, which landed in my inbox this morning. Taking inspiration from Bridgerton, a rise in stately home celebrations and a search for innovative, alternative wedding cakes, 2026 weddings are going to be so exciting! There’s one trend I’m waaaayyy out of sync with – and one conspicuously missing from the list! – but the rest of Zoe’s predictions are utterly fabulous. (I’ll leave the one I think is suspect until last!)

The latest Wedding Trends Report from leading wedding planning website Hitched reveals that weddings in 2026 are going to be more intentional and expressive than ever, full of meaningful experiences and some incredibly retro choices.

Images by Danielle Veitchfull credits here

Insights from Hitched’s annual wedding trends report show:

  • Serpentine tables are changing the game for receptions, encouraging movement, intimacy and visual impact while pastel wedding flowers are softening last year’s love of bold clashing blooms
  • Stately home weddings are gaining traction, bringing heritage, grandeur and old-money aesthetics while vineyard weddings are also on the rise, offering natural beauty and a sense of relaxed luxury
  • Fun food trucks offer an alternative to sit-down meals, with everything from wood-fired pizza to bao buns on the menu
  • Retro wedding cakes are making a delicious comeback, with piping, ruffles and kitschy colours taking over Instagram feeds while sheet cakes – once a low-key bake sale classic – are now being reimagined as creative centrepieces

Zoe Burke, leading wedding expert and editor of Hitched.co.uk says that sheet cakes – the low-key bake sale classic – in particular are coming back in a big way. “These school lunch staples have been reimagined as incredibly creative centrepieces. Retro cakes just bring a playful sense of fun to proceedings, and what a delicious way to have a little fun!”

Key Wedding Trends for 2026

Zoe says that wedding trends for 2026 are about an almost regal refinery, but with a cheeky twist, before descending into decadence for the celebrations. “From the dramatic rise in Regency-style weddings, to the comeback of Basque waist dresses and the soaring popularity of wedding after party dresses, couples are clearly embracing fun with fashion, while venue-led storytelling is reshaping how weddings feel, not just how they look.”

Bridgerton is Back

The Bridgerton effect is in full swing again, with the hit Netflix show influencing everything from fashion to florals, as interest in Bridgerton-style weddings soars by a staggering 191% compared to 2024*. As couples lean into romantic, Regency-inspired elegance, weddings will see more delicate corsetry, chandeliers and lashings of lace, paired with soft pastel tones.

The old money aesthetic is also soaring in popularity (searches up 133%), bringing with it a love of classic silhouettes and muted, tonal palettes. “For wedding fashion this means more Basque waist wedding dresses – a vintage silhouette with a modern twist – will be walking down the aisle, if the (+333%*) surge in online searches is anything to go by,” says Zoe.

Dramatic Décor

Wedding décor is going to be jaw-dropping this year, with couples focused on setting a scene. “The goal is to make your guests gasp,” says Zoe. “Draped wedding décor is being used to create softness, scale and atmosphere, while Serpentine tables with their beautiful, flowing layouts are changing the game for receptions, encouraging movement, intimacy and visual impact.”

Meanwhile, taking a seat just got more chic. Wedding tables are more than just a place to sit and eat, they’re a styling opportunity and a chance to enhance your guest experience. Interest in ‘pastel wedding flowers’ is up by 27% and are softening last year’s love of bold clashing blooms, while a renewed interest in ‘wedding place settings’ (+23%) shows that couples are once again getting creative with layout, layering and personalisation.

Zoe Burton, owner and lead floral artist at Burton’s Blooms says that by adding fresh fruit like grapes to a tablescape, you add unusual texture and another layer of visual interest, creating a multi-sensory experience for guests. “It transforms the table into something more curated and memorable, therefore, going beyond just a floral display.

“My inspiration for tablescaping often comes from art, the venue’s architecture, and nature, with a focus on form, clean lines, and letting single variety designs shine. These styles are resonating right now because couples want wedding florals that feel both editorial and personal; they want designs that tell a story, photograph beautifully, and feel a little different.

“More and more, couples are looking for wedding décor that stands out and hasn’t been widely seen before, so their day feels distinctive and unconventional.”

Cool Catering

The wedding reception continues to be reimagined, with couples ripping up the rule book and throwing out the traditions that no longer serve them. According to Zoe, “We’re now in our after-party era.”

Leaning into that carefree, after party feel, wedding catering has transformed, and sausage baps and chunky chips are no longer cutting it for evening guests. In 2026 it’s all about creative catering. Think fun food trucks as an alternative to sit-down meals, with everything from wood-fired pizza to bao buns on the menu, and swapping pornstar martinis for espresso martinis to keep guests on the dancefloor until last orders.

Amazing after party vibes

With after party dresses seeing a 50% rise in searches as more newlyweds opt for a second look for the reception, celebrity wedding planner Mark Niemierko tells Hitched why this year is going to be all about the after party more than ever before.

The rise of the after party is due to couples realising a wedding day should be a celebration, with it being that area of the day with less formality – yes, perhaps a first dance, but after that – the seating plan is done, the cake is cut, the speeches complete.

“There’s no more formality, we can finally dance, let our hair down with a dirty martini in hand and gorge on some fried chicken and chips! There’s an unplanned spontaneity to the afters, when a day is so perfectly planned like a military parade.

Mark adds that the after party doesn’t have to be a boozy, raucous affair if you don’t want it to be, sharing his own wedding trend prediction for 2026: the ‘wedding wind down’.

“The wedding wind down is a concept that happened by chance, but now all our couples love it,” he reveals. “Back at the hotel bar, with no production, just cash behind the bar and our singing pianist Danny Mills.

“It feels so stripped back from the larger production, it feels unplanned, some guests have even thought I didn’t know about one wind down, saying it felt like a lock in!”

Venues Setting the Vibe

According to Zoe, couples planning weddings for 2026 and beyond aren’t just looking for a wedding venue, they’re looking to set a scene. “The latest National Wedding Survey showed that stately homes and country houses were growing in popularity, which makes sense when you look at the other pieces of the wedding puzzle.

“Stately homes give heritage, grandeur and old-money vibes, and are the perfect backdrop for the dramatic, Bridgerton-esque aesthetic. But, we’re now also seeing a rise in interest in vineyard venues, which offer something completely different. With this type of venue you get natural beauty, and a taste of relaxed luxury instead. They’re both completely different, yet both very elegant and considered.”

Classic Cakes

Retro wedding cakes were a standout wedding trend for 2025, and Zoe says that the nostalgic cake trend is growing even bigger for 2026. Kitschy cakes with flamboyant frosting, intricate ruffles and deliciously bold colours are still the trendiest cake style for couples, but there’s another childhood favourite creeping up in popularity too.

“Once a low-key bake sale classic, the sheet cake is back in a big way,” says Zoe. “These school lunch staples have been reimagined as incredibly creative centrepieces. Retro cakes just bring a playful sense of fun to proceedings, and what a delicious way to have a little fun!”

Throwback Threads

Zoe says that the trend amongst wedding fashion in 2026 will be all about high-fashion looks with a throwback feel. “Basque waists and bubble hems are having (another) moment, as nostalgic silhouettes from the 90s and 00s continue to dominate the catwalks.”

Bridal designer Savannah Miller agrees, adding: “I think Basque waists have been making waves for some time now, mainly because they are really flattering and dramatic, which brides are really loving at the moment.

“When you couple a Basque waist with a bubble hem, you make modern magic because the bubble hem feels super directional and fashion forward without being too much.

“When we designed this kind of style for our bespoke bride Ambar Driscoll, we purposely created internal ties in the lining of the skirt so that the bubble hem could be made more or less extreme depending on what part of the wedding she was in and crucially meant she could show off her shoes and dance and run about without worrying about tripping over her dress.

“I was really inspired by the voluminous shapes and forms of the flowers in my garden to create this silhouette for Ambar as well as from the extreme volume conveyed by Sir John Singer Sergeant in his magnificent works.”

Men’s wedding attire trends for 2026

This one comes under the category of “wouldn’t you love to know” because – other than the gorgeous suit being modelled in this editorial, which is from House of Cavani – Hitched’s wedding fashion trends are all about brides. Note to self: reach out to menswear / groomswear experts and find out!

Just one question: can you have a traybake for your stately home wedding?

So I mentioned there’s one trend I’m not on board with, and it’s this! In the notes from Hitched’s press people, the title for this article was It’s official: Tiered wedding cakes are off the table for 2026 and I have to say I disagree completely. I adore creativity in wedding cakes, and have so much admiration for cake designers who are absolute artists and master craftsmen. There is absolutely a place for sheet cakes (a term I’d never heard, surely that’s a traybake?!) and this dessert table looks amazing. But tiered cakes are the perfect pairing for stately homes and I think they’ll be a key component of this rising trend: I’d love to see cake designers embracing the stately home vibe and making spectacular, artistic creations for 2026 weddings!

How about a second wedding cake then?

One of 2025’s major trends was two outfits: one for the ceremony and one for the dancing. The rise in food trucks is another ‘pairing’ trend: couples marrying early in the day might have a sit-down lunch and a pizza truck for late evening. So why not a tiered cake to kick off the evening reception, and a fabulous sheet cake / tray bake to end the night on a sugar high?!

It’s wonderful to be sharing this beautiful September wedding with you all today. Izzy and Tom chose some of our favourite suppliers for their wedding, and they’ve sent the sweetest reviews for their English Wedding interview. Not least, Barley Wood wedding photographer Martin Dabek who gets a glowing recommendation from Izzy and Tom. There are some truly breathtaking images of their day here, so slow your scroll and settle in for a lovely read!

Our wedding photography

We chose Bristol wedding photographer Martin Dabek.

Martin was fantastic on the day. He was relaxed and fun, putting us and our guests at ease. He also managed to be everywhere all at once!

When we saw the photos we were thrilled. They captured the day perfectly and we loved that he also got some great shots of our guests on the dance floor. Martin also made a wedding video for us using footage he’d captured on his iPhone set to some of the songs we used on the day which is the perfect memento.

Our wedding venue

Barley Wood wedding venue in rural Bristol

Barley Wood is a really special venue. It is an old house set in gorgeous grounds with both outdoor and indoor ceremony options and a Great Hall for the wedding breakfast. It has lovely bedrooms so we were able to have family and friends stay for the weekend of the wedding. It really felt like home for the weekend.

We loved that it was a blank canvas and we were able to decorate the house however we chose. Zach and the team there were so helpful and ensured everything ran smoothly on the day.

The morning of our wedding day was rainy but luckily the clouds parted and the sun came out in time for us to have an outdoor ceremony overlooking the Mendips. This was such a magical part of the day. The weather stayed warm so we were able to have our drinks reception outside as well as a pizza van and coffee van in front of the house in the evening.

Our wedding outfits

After lots of shopping around, I found my dress in Lace and Grace in Keynsham.

The dresses there are stunning and I was stuck between two. Becky and Carol were brilliant and helped me make my decision. In the end I went for a minimalist Chosen by Kyha dress and added sleeves and a personalised veil to make the dress my own.

I wanted to add a hair piece and by chance found a beautiful hairband in Bradford on Avon.

I treated myself to some gold Jimmy Choos to complete the look as the slit in my dress meant my shoes were on show!

Tom decided he wanted a tux fairly early on but wanted something a little different, so went for a navy tux with black details. He hired this from Clifton Suits.

Our amazing suppliers

Papadeli catering

Papadeli were amazing as our wedding caterers. We knew we wanted something a bit different food wise and for the wedding breakfast to be sharing style and they really delivered. Lots of our guests commented on how delicious the food was. Lou was so organised in the build up and felt like a friend by the wedding day. She was also brilliant at catering for anyone with dietary requirements which was very reassuring.

Pip Floral Studio

Anna supplied us with the most gorgeous flowers including a lovely arrangement that went up the staircase leading to the Great Hall. I loved my bouquet so much that I had it pressed and framed as a keepsake.

Little Wedding Helper

Kirsten helped us to style our wedding. We had calls with her to discuss our vision and she had loads of props we were able to borrow on the day to save us buying things we wouldn’t use again. She was amazing the day before and set everything up meaning we could have a (fairly!) relaxed afternoon and evening before the wedding.

George Wilson music

We hired George, a singer and pianist, to play for our ceremony and drinks reception. He took requests from guests and brought great energy to the beginning of the day.

(Why do we even need to say this? Because media giants are exploiting small wedding brands and it needs to stop.)

Basic directories don’t work. But they’re still charging £££ to join.

Wedding suppliers work SO hard. If industry website owners and editors don’t recognise that and provide value – ie work hard FOR you – they’re not worth your money.

English Wedding’s supplier listings include keyword links which work harder to show search engines your content. And I reach out regularly to our members to ask if they have weddings, product launches or other content to share because I want them to be seen, and I feel a responsibility to help boost their SEO efforts however I can.

Authenticity wins over AI. Always.

Real, honest images and heartfelt words hold value in a rapidly changing digital world. AI wedding content is out there, playing the algorithms and winning. Wedding blogs are the antidote to impossible wedding inspiration, sharing genuine advice and real couples’ celebrations.

“Best wedding supplier” lists should be free.

It’s hard to believe, but some pretty major publications are reaching out to suppliers and asking for payment for being included on a “Top 50…” list. This is unfair.

Wedding awards: good, bad, and ugly.

When wedding awards are genuine, they’re ace.

When they’re an opportunity to hear amazing client feedback, they’re absolutely worth entering.

When they’re nothing more than a social media popularity contest (for ‘votes’) they’re basically fake.

When they cause anxiety, cost a fortune and take endless hours of your time, they’re unkind.

Remember magazines?

English Wedding took off in 2009 when I published a review of print wedding magazines. The page content of most was 80%+ advertising (with up to 20% being real weddings, advice articles and editorial content).

Wedding blogs soared in popularity because they were free to read, featured real couples and were more than a selling tool. In contrast to the print magazines of the time, which were FULL of things you should buy – and not much else, blogs were a breath of fresh air.

Having an honest voice is even more important now than it was then.

Wedding blogs were founded on honesty.

Bloggers revolutionised the wedding media in 2008. They were the only independent voices in the wedding industry. Kudos to social media: it’s given every indie wedding business a platform to shine. The wedding industry is made up of thousands of brilliant humans who adore their work and speak from the heart. Blogs are still so relevant: for SEO, and for showcasing businesses and amplifying their voices wherever we can.

It’s taken me days to finish this little article, and I’ve realised that’s because I’m conflicted. I’m super proud of English Wedding, but at the same time I feel it’s never been a major force in the wedding industry like Love My Dress or Rock n Roll Bride. I have membership fees for photographers, wedding planners, florists and all the other wedding supplier types to join English Wedding, be listed on the website and showcase their services.

I’ve been tormenting myself – is it wrong to ask wedding business owners to pay to join my website? But no. This is different. I charge a tiny fee and I work my heart out giving members SEO-focused feature articles.

And so we’re being honest, transparent and authentic. I make about £500 a month from English Wedding, less what I pay for hosting, tax and so on. I’m not a huge publishing company, I run this website with integrity and a passion to do the very best I can for all of the brands I support.

I still hear stories of wedding venues who won’t recommend suppliers unless they pay to be on a list. Photographers say they’ve been approached by national magazines and asked to pay a small fortune for inclusion in a “best photographers” article. This is just so wrong.

No one in the wedding industry should be asked to pay for “exposure”.

Wedding websites can be honourable, honest, and open. They can share genuine talent and integrity and promote independent wedding businesses. Wedding blogs have been doing this for almost two decades. It’s the reason English Wedding exists – and has been since day one.

Timeless, breathtakingly beautiful images from Suman and Scott’s day are stopping me in my tracks as I scroll today. This stunning couple married at Coombe Abbey and chose English Wedding member Damien Vickers – a luxury wedding photographer in Cambridge – to capture their day. More than anything else, it’s the love in their eyes as they glance at each other that makes Suman and Scott’s wedding so magical. Their words for favourite Coombe Abbey wedding suppliers – including their brilliant photographer of course – are heartfelt. An enchanting wedding – and we’ll share even more on our instagram today @englishweddingblog

Our wedding photography

Damien Vickers captured our Coombe Abbey wedding.

Damien was absolutely fantastic. As a couple that isn’t at home in front of the camera, Damien really put us at ease during our engagement photoshoot and on the day of the wedding. We loved his style of photography and his approach. Damien was great to work with and the photos were beautiful!

Our wedding venue

Coombe Abbey. The Coombe Abbey grounds were beautiful and provided the perfect backdrop to our champagne reception. The marquee very comfortably housed our mid-sized party providing a great space to celebrate our special day with our loved ones.

Our wedding outfits

Suman was wearing a bespoke maroon lengha by Monga’s with champagne gold, pink and sage embroidery complemented by a pink and gold necklace set and traditional red bangles (called a choodha). Scott was wearing a bespoke tailored 3-piece suit by Edit Suits complete with a set of turtle cufflinks as a nod to our home in the Cayman Islands.

Our amazing suppliers

Our fresh flowers and decor were provided by Stylish Weddings who did a phenomenal job with the venue. Fiona and the team were brilliant from start to finish and really understood and brought to our life our vision.

Emma Bradley Designs provided our stationery. No request was too much trouble and Emma’s turnaround time was much faster than we’d expected. The stationery was beautiful with Emma effortlessly tying it all together by incorporating designs and motifs specifically created for our special day.

A super stylish, utterly beautiful intimate wedding for you today – and one I’ve been beyond excited to share. Alice and Jackson married with their closest, most special people in the world… then the following day, headed to Tuscany all together! Their day is perfect, the images are toe-tinglingly amazing, and every moment of this wedding beams with joy. Images are by the exceptionally brilliant Grace Elizabeth Photography, who gets a gorgeous review from the happy couple!

Wedding photographer review

We honestly couldn’t be happier with our wedding photos! Grace was amazing – not only are the photos stunning, but she felt like part of the family throughout the day. She made everyone feel so comfortable, brought so much fun and creativity, and captured the vibe of our little wedding so beautifully. We would recommend her to absolutely everyone!

Your best wedding moment or memory

It was all perfect! The sun was shining, and we had the best time celebrating our wedding with family – both in Exeter and our trip to Italy straight afterwards! Jackson says his favourite memory was watching me walk down the aisle.

Tell us anything you did differently – we love hearing about NEW traditions (or none at all!)

After 12 years together (since school!), we wanted nothing more than a relaxed day with our closest family. The next morning we all jetted off to Tuscany for a few unforgettable days, and once everyone flew home, we carried on our honeymoon in Florence and Milan. It couldn’t have been more perfect!

Venue name + review

Venue was the Jury Room and Exeter’s Historic Guildhall. It was perfect, super central and full of character and history.

Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!

I always knew I wanted to wear a short dress, just felt very me and went with the chill, fun vibe of the day.
Jackson’s suit was from Moss Brothers. As were all the men’s suits on the day, super helpful in the Exeter branch!

Dress or suit shop name + review

My dress, veil and shoes were all bought from Champagne & Charlotte in Bideford – couldn’t recommend enough! All was perfect. Dress was by Watters, Shoes were Charlotte Mills. Alterations were done by Lorraine at https://www.philhamhousedressmaker.co.uk/

Florist name + review

Dingles Florist in Barnstaple. Our flowers were perfect and exactly what we asked for. We loved having the freesias, peonies, and roses included, as they hold such a special meaning for our family.

Cake maker name + review

Cake was from Waitrose and was decorated by my mum and mother-in-law the night before! It was perfect.

I made our invitations myself on Canva.

Wedding readings?

We had two readings, a poem read by my little sister, Ellie. And another poem read by my father-in-law, Jason.

Hair + makeup name + review

My hair was done by Claire (my mother-in-law), and my make up done by Jasmine (my sister-in-law). Both are so important to me and so talented at what they do. They run Cross Street Social (hair and homeware studio) in Barnstaple.
