I’m really feeling the love when I scroll through the images of Andy & Isaac’s wedding. These two are absolutely gorgeous, full of character and they’ve written a fabulous interview for their English Wedding feature! With thanks to lovely Mike at Greenhill Photography for his images of this very special day.

Wedding photographer review

We chose Mike as we loved the natural styling of his pictures. They managed to grab the moments that we couldn’t always be around to see and at the same time capture the feel of our big day. We didn’t want too many staged pictures. We wanted to see the pictures and relive the special moments from our day. Mikes pictures have helped do just that.

Your best wedding moment or memory

One of the moments that stands out from our wedding day, was the moment we made our big entrance for the ceremony. Many of our guests assumed we would enter by the double doors to the rear of Great Hall at Leigh Court but the dual staircase provided the opportunity for the perfect entrance which warranted a round of applause from the guests. You could feel the love in the room. Seeing so many of our close family and friends gathered together to share the day was such a magical moment.

Venue name + review

Leigh Court. We shortlisted just a few venues that suited our criteria but Leigh Court stood apart from the others.

The imposing building and impressive, characterful rooms blew us away. We knew our guests would be equally as charmed by it. Having the whole of the ground floor allowed our day to seamlessly flow from room to room but each room providing its own purpose.

The Great hall, which had also been used for filming of Bridgerton amongst other TV dramas, was a striking space for the ceremony.

The Salon for the drinks and canapés, the Library for our wedding breakfast while the stunning Tapestry room became the backdrop to dancing in the evening. The Morning room provided a more relaxed space for the photo booth to be set up.

The bar and lounge provided a brilliant space for friends to gather and converse while they grabbed a drink. So many of our guests have gone on to comment what a beautiful venue Leigh Court is. We found having Claire, our assigned wedding planner for the venue at hand, especially reassuring.

Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!

We decided on something coordinating and traditional. Tweed, wool suits were practical as we married in November, yet the styling seemed in keeping with the setting of the wedding. The warm brown tones were also hinted at on the twine of the invites and even the hydrangea button holes.

Florist name + review

Primrose May Florist.

Maddie at Primrose May totally understood the feel of wedding we were trying to create. We wanted flowers to look natural, not overly fussy or structured. Hydrangeas in a neutral cream suited the vibe. We had never considered these could be used for button holes even too.

Maddie set to work to create something that complimented our big day. We loved how local she was to us and isn’t a large company. Maddie even went above and beyond and provided us with a posey to be added to decorate our wedding cake when due to illness, a close friend who makes cakes and supplying the cake for our big day, was struck down by sickness and told he couldn’t even supply the cake he had designed and made for us.

Although the plain iced cakes we managed to source on the eve of the wedding weren’t the dramatic teal marbled creation we had hoped for, Maddie’s hydrangea saved the day, along with a little help from our venue wedding planner, Claire, so we had a more understated but classic cake instead.

Any crafty projects or homemade styling touches?

All our invitations were hand made. Each featured a photo booth like strip of pictures of us attached to the front of some of our happy memories. These were tied together by twine with a parcel tag with our logo, kindly designed by a close family friend, hand stamped on the front. This set a theme that was picked up through the wedding favours and place names.

The natural hues from the twine and parcel tag suited the vibe of our wedding and we suppose hints at the colours of wool suits. We share a love of live music, which from the start of relationship gave us a common interest and bonded us with us visiting established and up and coming artists touring. We therefore themed each table name after a musical act that we loved seeing.

Isaac created mock ups of vinyl 45’s record covers noting the name of a music act for each table. Guests could scan a QR code on the single mock up to take them to a play list of tracks from all the artists featured on the tables.

Wedding readings?

Keeping in line with our love of music, we felt a reading from a song by an artist we had seen live would be appropriate. Young Blood by Sophie Ellis-Bextor had the right sentiment and suited us so well. You only have to read the lyrics and we are sure you’ll share our thoughts.

First dance song? Playlist recommendations?

This guys in love with you by Herb Alpert, a total Burt Bacharach penned classic brought the guests gathering to watch our first dance. The words of this still make us slightly emotional. The title says it all. It means so much to us both.

Wedding planner name + review

Claire O’Shea who we met from our first visit to Leigh Court over saw the organisation of our big day. On the run up she made she we were on track with everything. On the eve of the wedding, she let us walk through our entrance and talked through the running order so we felt everything was in control. From offering guidance to our best men, to meeting us at the front door on the day itself, as we secretly arrived away from the eyes of our guests to create a sense of drama when we did finally appear, Claire managed the situation brilliantly.

Caterers name + review

Berry Blue, the caterers who deal with the catering for Leigh Court were great. So many people remember the food at a wedding so we were very aware how crucial getting it right was. We had a food tasting with Berry Blue of some of the selected dishes from their large range of choices. The only problem we were spoilt with what to go for. We were delighted with the meal provided though. Amazed at how the chefs got so many meals out in one wave, so everyone got fed almost at the same moment and impressed at the attentiveness of the waiting staff too.

2 days, 2 looks, 2 cultures – Natasha & Jason’s wedding is out of this world. I love it! I want to see ALL the Hindu weddings on our blog – I’m not sent nearly enough and they are BEAUTIFUL! Today’s gorgeous couple chose North Cadbury Court as their venue for the weekend, and Somerset wedding photographers and videographers Smiling Tiger Studios to capture both days of their wedding. The results are amazing – as always, I had far too many stunning photos to choose from so you’ll find more of my favourites on @englishweddingblog on instagram!

Wedding photographer review

Linus and Tom were brilliant from the get go! They captured both of our ceremonies beautifully, including the intricate details of our Hindu ceremony.

Your best wedding moment or memory

Walking into the ballroom for our wedding breakfast with the hundreds of balloons hanging across the ceiling was beautiful.

Venue name + review

North Cadbury Court – their reputation precedes them. Beautiful venue, amazing staff, and wedding planning. As it was dry hire we were able to tailor and creat our wedding exactly to how we wanted to. From the styles of both ceremonies to ordering our wines for both events. They took the stress and hassle away from us and made our guests feel welcomed and taken care of.

We had two ceremonies. A traditional Hindu Bengali wedding, where ceremonial head pieces are worn by the bride and groom. Followed by civil ceremony the next day.

Dress or suit shop name + review

Civil ceremony wedding dress: Grace Loves Lace

Cake maker name + review

Cake Design by Holly. Communicated with us throughout the planning and made a beautiful wedding cake. Best flavour .. raspberry and elderflower, delicious!

Any crafty projects or homemade styling touches?

Creative Collections brought our idea to life to fill the ballon ceiling with balloons for the wedding breakfast and were able to source sustainable balloons.

Wedding readings?

This will be our year – The Zombies

First dance song? Playlist recommendations?

Jamie Lawson – I wasn’t expecting that.

Imagine sitting down to eat with all of your favourite people, in the gardens of one of England’s most striking stately homes. The sun shining as evening falls, with views across the Somerset countryside. Bliss, and a dream wedding that came true for Holly & Nat!

Images in this blog are by Bristol wedding photographer Martin Dabek, who we’re delighted to say is a member of English Wedding. He’s an experienced wedding photographer, based in Somerset, and has photographed over 400 weddings across 14 years.

This day was glorious. The colourful flowers set the scene for a fun, vibrant and colourful celebration. There’s so many special touches and little details which make this wedding stand out from the crowd.

Holly & Nat told us Brympton wedding photographer Martin Dabek was fantastic. Martin is based in Bristol, Somerset and covers weddings throughout the UK and abroad.

“Martin was great and stopped at nothing to get the perfect shot.” ~ Holly & Nat

The setting is sublime. Brympton House is picturesque and perfect for an indoor or outdoor wedding. If you’re lucky enough to have amazing weather, you have option to dine outside. Inside the house itself is equally fabulous. Holly & Nat said,

“Brympton House was fantastic. The staff were great and so kind and accommodating. The venue itself and the gardens were stunning.”

I couldn’t agree more! With colourful florals and styling by Brympton Styling, background music from The Bristol String Quartet and a lively party in the company of Mariachi Loco, this has to be one of the most fun weddings I’ve seen!

My artistic heart has fallen head over heels for Cat Faulkner’s illustrations of the couple and their guests – what an amazing keepsake to take home from a wedding – they’re really beautiful!

Wedding photographer review

Kayleigh’s timeless and natural photography style partnered with her friendly, professional approach immediately stood out to us when we discussed our wedding photography. Typically our photos involve us standing side by side with an awkward smile; yet with Kayleigh it’s different. We felt completely relaxed and enjoyed every moment with her. Kayleigh has an incredible talent for capturing all the little details without you realising she was even there. As a result, our photos are a beautiful reflection of our day which we will treasure for decades to come. We loved having Kayleigh as part of our day and have no hesitation in recommending Snapdragon Photography to future couples!

Tell us anything you did differently – we love hearing about NEW traditions (or none at all!)

Kezia walked down the aisle with her mother and father. Words reflecting the joining of two families were used in place of the presenting/handing over the woman to be married. Our wedding readings included “Planet Caravan” by Black Sabbath. Our recessional song for walking back up the aisle was Bang a Gong by Marc Bolan and T. Rex.

We spent the day after our wedding in our swimwear, enjoying the pool at Walton Castle with our close family and friends. It was a glorious day so we made the most of the sunshine and our beautiful venue. And we used a QR code for guests to share behind the scene clips and wedding messages

Your best moment or memory

Seeing each other for the first time, at our wedding ceremony. A surprise a cappella performance from the groom’s family who sang “You’re just too good to be true”. Sitting in the bar together at the end of the night (and everyone had left), nibbling on Gouda cheese and giggling about the day’s events.

Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!

Dress: A bespoke Love Story Bride dress from Perfect Day Bride, Bath (www.perfectdaybridal.net). Beautifully altered by Sew Studio (https://sew-studio-clothing-alteration-service.business.site). Connie from Sew Studio totally understood my vision and created detachable, billowing sleeves. This allowed me to create two different wedding day looks. Suit Clifton Suits, Bristol (www.cliftonsuits.co.uk) A tailor made suit reflected the exact requirements of the Groom. The team were dedicated in their alterations, ensuring it fitted perfectly. It also had all of the Groom’s little details such as including the bride and groom’s initials on the inside jacket.

Florist name + review

Megan Lily Floral Design (www.meganlilyfloraldesign.co.uk) Meg blew us away with our incredible wedding flowers; transforming our vague ideas into reality with exquisite attention to detail. I will never forget seeing and smelling the bridal flowers for the first time, they were simply beautiful.

Cake maker name + review

The Mother of the Bride made meringues which our caterer, The Hogfather (www.hogfathercatering.co.uk), used to create a tower for us to cut. This was then transformed into Eton Mess for our guests to enjoy.

Stationery maker’s name + review

The stationery illustrations were created by the Groom’s cousin. Menus and place names were hand written by the Bride. The seating plan was created by the Bride.

Any crafty projects or homemade styling touches?

Photos from our favourite beaches were used for the table names. The Bride grew and dried lavender for the place settings and included dried rose petals from the garden within the confetti. The Father of the Bride grew herbs for the table decorations and made the table photograph stands from shells and pebbles. Our record player and vinyls filled the bar with our favourite tunes.

Evie Smith (www.eviesmakeup.com) Evie was a pleasure to spend the morning with and nailed my brief completely; creating a natural, effortless look which held in from morning until the early hours.

Other Walton Castle wedding supplier recommendations from Kezia & Peter

Oleg Zaremskyi (https://ozaremskyi.business.site) created a lovely, fun atmosphere in the tent during cocktails.

Prickly Pear Stretch Tents provided us with much needed shelter from the Great British summer rain. They were really supportive throughout the planning process, providing different options and ideas. They also liaised with the venue to ensure everything ran smoothly. They were extremely professional during the setup and take down operation, creating us a beautiful indoor but outdoor setting within the beautiful castle walls which we enjoyed all weekend. (www.pricklypearstretchtents.com)

Virginias Vintage Hire provided the furniture for the event. During the planning process they shared ideas and alternatives to help us create an ‘english garden party’ vibe.

Danny Conetta (www.dannythefireperformer.com) provided us with an evening fire show. The weather forecast was not at all favourable for Danny’s performance however he worked tirelessly in the days leading up to the event to create and agree an alternative performance with the venue to enable his show to continue. He provided non stop entertainment for the entire show – it was captivating! I cannot emphasise enough how lucky we were to have such supportive, creative and flexible suppliers.

We’re thrilled to share this enchantingly autumnal wedding for a gorgeous couple in the Cotswolds. Jess & Tom had to postpone twice – their welcome sign tells quite a story! But their wedding, once it happened, is exceptionally beautiful. Jess is stunning in a dress from The Cotswolds Frock Shop, and Tom’s so handsome in his suit… although Albie almost steals the show with his little dog bow tie! All of the images are by Cotswolds wedding photographer Martin Dabek, who we’re proud to say is a member of English Wedding.

How did you choose your photographer?

We read lots of reviews and used social media to get a feel for a variety of different local photographers. Our main priority however was to find a Cripps Barn wedding photographer that we would be happy to share our day with! We read Martin’s ‘A bit about me’ section on his website and instantly had a good feeling that we would get on due to our shared love of the outdoors, adventure and four legged friends! Of course we also loved his relaxed, natural and beautiful style that we really felt captured the best of all the emotions portrayed on your wedding day.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

We knew that Martin would make the photo experience fun, that our guests would feel comfortable and that we would come away with some stunning photographs. All of which were definitely true! On receiving our pictures our family and friends’ comments included ‘stunning’, ‘captured the day perfectly’, ‘what incredible colours’ and my favourite, ‘absolute bangers’. He was also so kind and positive throughout the numerous date changes. It was stressful at times, but his friendly and professional approach really helped to keep us going!

What’s your fondest memory of your wedding?

Sitting at the top table surrounded by twinkling lights in the most beautiful surroundings and seeing all of our favourite people laughing and having fun after so long apart and sitting around the fire pit together taking a minute to reflect on the most amazing day!

Another highlight: Venus, ‘the planet of love’, making a special appearance for us whilst sitting around the fire pit with Tom. We got very lucky with a clear night and lots of stars.

Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?

We loved Cripps Barn from the moment we walked in. It was only the second venue we viewed but we knew straight away that we didn’t need to go and look anywhere else! We wanted to get married in the countryside and the barns, beautiful rustic beams and roaring fireplace were big ticks for us! We both love the outdoors so it was important to be able to ‘bring the outside in’ as we wanted to create a woodland feel with lots of ferns, foliage and wild flowers. Cripps is the perfect venue for this, it is already so stunning that any decor just adds to the wow factor. We took inspiration from our Cotswold dog walks and the gorgeous outdoor area surrounding the barn. Having the option to sit with friends around a firepit and explore the grounds under twinkling fairy lights was also very appealing! Not forgetting the food. We are both foodies and the food at Cripps is really something special. There is such a diverse range of deliciousness to choose from and the way it is served on sharing platters and cooked in an open kitchen is different from anything we had seen before. We can’t wait to go back to one of their feast nights!

Did you love wearing your outfits? How was your shopping experience, was it fun to find your wedding gear?

My dress was by Allure Bridals and I got it from The Cotswold Frock Shop in Stow on The Wold. It was actually the last dress I tried on but I instantly fell in love with the champagne lace, statement buttons and shimmery sequins woven throughout. I had always fancied long sleeves and loved Kate Middleton’s classic lace dress she wore on her wedding day. My shoes were also from The Cotswold Frock Shop, although if I am honest I did spend most of the day in my sequin converse! My necklace and earrings were from a charity shop and were ‘my something blue’.
Tom’s suit was from Moss Brothers in Oxford. He wanted a hint of country chic opposed to anything too formal but still wanted to look smart. The boys also had matching three piece suits, but Tom opted for a different waistcoat and tie to compliment the warm tones of the season. The bridesmaids wore dresses from Little Mistress. We all really loved the warm dusty blue colour and the way the buttons and lace complemented Jess’s dress. They also delivered to Australia where one of Jess’s bridesmaids was living at the time.

Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness 🙂

Our flowers were from the very talented Beth at Go Wild Flowers. She did an absolutely incredible job and really managed to create exactly what we had in mind (and more). We had lots of mixed foliage including our favourite, ferns, mixed with dill, lisianthus, veronica, blue thistle, dahlia, berries, safari sunset and roses. They really did look absolutely stunning. Thank you Beth!

As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?

Our lovely friend Becca at ‘Willimonts Cakes’ made our delicious wedding cake for us. She created a two tier semi-naked cake with two different flavours; lemon, blueberry and white chocolate and carrot cake with orange frosting.

Tell us about any special personal touches, or creative projects you made yourselves (we love that stuff!)

Beth dressed the venue for us using woodland foliage and fairy lights for an overhead wheel on the ceiling of the barn and across the fireplace. We also designed our own centrepieces for the tables using blue Bombay Gin and Haig Club whiskey bottles, copper coloured glass containers, bark hearts, moss and vanilla candles. Beth kindly supplied wooden log slices to stand these on and wild flowers for the bottles. We kept the top trestle table rustic without a table cloth and instead opted for a foliage runner. All of the tables were named after our favourite forests across the UK. Jess and her dad also made a large frame for photo ops using moss and artificial flowers to compliment and we used rustic pallet boards to display some of our signage and as a container for blankets.

What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?

Chris Stapleton – Millionaire. It is a beautiful country song full of soul that we knew would sound incredible performed live. It was also on in the background when Tom proposed!

How did you choose your photographer?

Martin was well-reviewed online and his price point fit our budget

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

Martin was fantastic and left no stone unturned. He was able made us both feel very comfortable – although we’re not the most confident in front of the camera – and he also captured the fun nature of the day. Martin was constantly taking photos throughout the day, and even the posed photos were quite relaxed.

The quality of the photos are exceptional. Martin has clearly taken a lot of time and care in editing the pictures and they brought out the best in the day and our guests.

What’s your fondest memory of your wedding?

The wedding occurred weeks after Covid restrictions were lifted in July 2021, and meeting all of our friends and family after years of being apart, and years of planning and re-planning the wedding, we don’t so much have a fondest moment, as much as are grateful that the whole day could happen exactly as planned. Everyone had a wonderful day, and this was what we had all wanted.

Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?

The wedding took place at Clifton Observatory in Bristol. This venue was perfect: it was small but spacious, it had a lovely terrace and it had a picture-perfect view of the bridge.

Did you love wearing your outfits? How was your shopping experience, was it fun to find your wedding gear?

Becky did a lot of research when searching for her dress, and although she thought she wanted a 3/4 length dress, after trying on a few she decided she wanted a full-length, slim and simple piece, which she found. Fortunately, she was able to purchased her dress before the pandemic and found a local seamstress to alter it the moment lockdown was lifted.

Andy wanted his suit to be more than an ordinary two piece that he would normally wear for work, and found a stylish oatmeal three piece suit. As he wanted it to be perfect, the search was stressful at times, but he was thrilled when he found the suit that he bought.

Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness 🙂

We hired the super Emma Petersson who not only created a modern and interesting bouquet for myself and bridesmaid, but she also decorated the room with jars and boards to add a rustic touch to the venue.

As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?

Lola’s cupcakes provided us with a delicious, and well-priced, two-tiered naked sponge cake for which we had to keep the car very cold transporting it from Birmingham to Bristol! Emma added some tasteful and elegant flowers to the cake to make it look stunning and tasty.

What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?

We were torn between two songs: ‘The Whole of the Moon’ by The Water Boys and ‘You Make My Dreams Come True’ by Hall and Oates – both being fun, party songs. We chose the latter as it echoed our sentiments and it is from one of our favourite films, ‘500 Days of Summer’.

Did you do anything differently? We love hearing about NEW traditions!

Rather than having half an hour of speeches, we split them up over them the meal with the father of bride speaking after the starters, the groom after the mains and the best man after the desserts.

Other favourite wedding suppliers

The wedding was catered by Parsnip Mash (https://parsnipmash.co.uk) who were fantastic – definitely the best wedding food we have ever had! Simon and his team worked with us to curate a delicious Mediterranean-themed menu and ensured that the wedding breakfast happened flawlessly.

Atelier (https://www.atelierclifton.co.uk) looked after Becky’s hair and the hair of Andy’s mother and Becky’s brother. Ella (very patiently) put up Becky’s hair exactly as she had wanted it, and it looked amazing.

We’re bringing you all the sunny vibes today with this super lovely wedding from Somerset. Meg’s horse gets a starring role in the day, and even he couldn’t tell the sunflowers weren’t real (he had a nibble to be sure)! This is a glorious Hestercombe wedding with pretty styling touches, and a fantastic interview from the bride and groom.

We love Meg’s honesty: she told us she much prefers to wear overalls and welly boots, so dress shopping wasn’t her favourite thing… although she does look absolutely amazing in her Enzoani dress. It’s important for us to share with our readers that not every bride loves the process, or sets out excitedly searching for ‘the one’ in boutiques with a gaggle of bridesmaids. It’s fine to still be YOU when you’re outfit shopping – and actually it’s really important to stay true to yourself. So Meg, thank you ever so much for your honesty – and we do think you’re an incredibly beautiful bride!

The day was captured by lovely Hestercombe Gardens wedding photographer Martin Dabek, who gets a brilliant review from the happy couple.

We were amazed by our stunning wedding photos and really enjoyed having Martin there on our Hestercombe wedding day. We had loads of feedback from guests about how great he was and how easy he was to chat to. When we knew he was there he was a pleasure to have around, creating lots of smiles and giggles. He also blended in so well it was easy to forget he was there, allowing us to feel relaxed and him to take many photos that we had no idea he had captured.

How did you choose your photographer?

We complied a list of recommended photographers from friends and family then looked at their websites. We had a zoom meeting with our two favourite photographers and chose Martin because we really enjoyed chatting to him and liked his approach to wedding photography.

What’s your fondest memory of your wedding?

I can’t choose a fondest memory, there are so many amazing memories from our wedding day. Some of the best are seeing my husband crying at the end of the aisle as I walked towards him (happy tears I hope), our fathers’ speeches, my bridesmaids copying our romantic poses and the horror on my Mum’s face when my horse slobbered on my wedding dress immediatley after our arrival.

Hestercombe is a beautiful venue to get married in. The gardens are always stunning, Hestercombe House is magnificent and the orangery is beautifully light and airy. There are loads of amazing photo opportunities and areas to explore including lakes and waterfalls.
The staff were brilliant and very accommodating. We were allowed to take my horse and dog for photographs on our big day. They also allowed me to do a practice run with my horse a few weeks before so we could help him to relax

Did you love wearing your outfits? How was your shopping experience, was it fun to find your wedding gear?

I didn’t enjoy wedding dress shopping. I’m a farmers daughter and much prefer to be in overalls and welly boots. However once I’d found the right dress I really enjoyed wearing it, enough to wear it again all evening for a Covid delayed wedding party at a later date.

Joe hated suit shopping and in true Joe style left it until last minute. He then proceeded to unknowingly chose and buy the same suit he wore when he was best man the year before for my sisters wedding. On the plus side it meant that he had a spare if he spilt anything on his suit, my Dad already had a matching suit and they both already had shoes to match which had already been worn in so were more comfortable.

Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness

We used artificial flowers for everything and I was really pleased with them. I don’t think you can tell that they aren’t real, my horse couldn’t either as he tried to eat them!
Our florist was Flowers By Tasha and she was brilliant.

As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?

We have a local lady who makes amazing cakes. She made our wedding cake and our post-covid wedding party cake. Both were beautiful and tasted amazing.
The lady is called Cakey Sue and she can be found on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/habberfieldcakes/

We hand made our save the dates and our invites. They were very simple and used our thumb prints to make a heart.

All of our music was on a playlist complied by Joe. There was no DJ or live music but this worked really well for our intimate little wedding.

What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?

A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. We copied a friends first dance song after dancing to it at their wedding and really enjoying it.

A sparkler exit

Walking under an arch of sparklers held by guests at the end of the night. This was a great way to finish our evening and made for some great photos.
